Kids ages 6-16 will write poems and do chalk drawings with Poetry Walk’s Geri DiGiorno as an Arts Council of Sonoma County project, a part of the River Heritage Celebration weekend demonstrating how to have fun by and on the River. The “chalk up” takes place along the River behind Jungle Vibes, 136 Petaluma Blvd. N., Petaluma. Kids who sign up receive a $10 gift certificate to Jungle Vibes and YouTube videos will immortalize sidewalk masterpieces.
Live music is featured as DiGiorno “brings poetry to the streets” as part of River Heritage’s Celebration of the river sponsored by Friends of the Petaluma River. For more info., go to www.artscouncilsc.com/index.php and www.friendsofthepetalumariver.org/.
The inspiration for this event is Geri Digiorno, founder and coordinator of the Petaluma Poetry Walk which will follow next Sunday Sept. 20, a highly successful annual event that features multiple reading venues in and around historic Petaluma, California. Past Poet Laureate of Sonoma County, her goal has been to help kids express them selves in writing. We hope to fill the sidewalks with art and words.
